Northland Sheep Farm - Marathon, NY
Donn Hewes and Maryrose Livingston operate a certified organic sheep farm using rotational grazing that includes cows and horses. They are a mixed power farm utilizing draft horse power and tractors.
Learn about rotational grazing, fencing options, sheep breeding, and their decision to move from cheese making to meat production. NRCS will be on-hand to discuss funding opportunities available for grazing infrastructure.
We will also visit Becky Frye, who shares the land, to learn about growing culinary and medicinal herbs.

Join CCE Tompkins Master Gardener Volunteer, Tracy McLellan for investigate the reasons to save seeds, the plants that are good candidates for seed saving, and methods for handling and storing seeds.
Emphasis will be on tomatoes, beans, lettuce and kale. Other vegetable varieties, annual flowers, and native plants will also be covered.

Each year the 4-H office and volunteers hold a fantastic educational and fun program for both the younger, less experienced and older and more experienced 4-H members.
You will learn how to prepare a animal for show. Wonderful Volunteers and Teens will be there to assist and help youth with special and interesting tips to help clip, groom and improve the showing of their animal.

Ithaca Farmers' Market
CCE Tompkins' Plant Sale will take place Friday, May 17th from 1-7pm at the Ithaca Farmers Market.
This sale features a wide variety of vendors offering specialty plants and gardening advice on topics ranging from growing rock garden plants to selecting native species. Plants for sale include organically grown and heirloom vegetable transplants, colorful annuals, fragrant herbs, hanging baskets, small flowering shrubs, hardy roses, fruit crops, trees, evergreens, and specialty perennials.
CCE-Tompkins Master Gardeners and other community groups will also be participating.
Admission is FREE!

Cortland County Fairgrounds
Join us at the Cortland County Fairgrounds, May 18th, for a Youth and Novice Percheron Clinic open to all who wish to learn about draft horses (especially Percherons).
Attendees will experience hands-on instruction for correctly harnessing, hitching safety, driving single horse and teams of Percherons.
No horse is needed. Activities are perfect everyone from beginning to more advanced horsemen.
Admission is just $15 and includes light breakfast, lunch, the day's events and a 1 year membership to the NY Percheron Association.

Learn practical advice for how to successfully raise chickens for home egg production. This class will explore topics including: sourcing healthy birds, determining which laying varieties are best for your needs, options for housing and nutrition, common illness and pest prevention, and the joys of living with chickens!
This class meets the requirements from the Villages of Trumansburg and Dryden for a chicken permit. The class is only online and will be recorded, but only those who attend live will receive a letter to take to their municipality.
